The main theme of Andrejs thesis is the interaction between the plant hormones auxin and cytokinin, main antagonistic regulators of plant development and growth. Andrej has identified a novel component of auxin-cytokinin cross-talk, gene synergistically upregulated by both of them (SYAC1) and characterized its biological function as a regulator of cell wall polysaccharides secretion, which could be relevant for agricultural applications.
