Exponentially growing E. coli cells follow a number of growth laws which coordinate gene expression with the need for growth and metabolism. In this talk, I will describe experimental work that establish these laws, and the theory of bacterial growth control emerging from the laws. The theory will be applied to study the surprising effect of antibiotics on bacterial growth.
