Free of charge, visitors can experience fascinating tours, workshops, shows and witness experiments directly executed through science professionals.

Science Program at ISTA Campus

The Long Night of Research is one of the great opportunities we have at our institute to invite family and friends for a visit to show them insights into the campus life. Program highlights this year include the „My Science in 5 Minutes” event, where scientists give a crash course in their respective studies. Moreover, there will be two family lectures, hosted by our colleagues Andrea Stöllner and Ilse Krätschmer.

Additionally, three playful hands-on science booths will bring scientific principles and methods closer to the audience: due to popular demand, the Ibáñez Group will host their slime-making station, explaining the chemical process behind the manufacturing of the sought-after toy. Also, the battery demonstrator of the Freunberger Group will make an exciting return, showing the science behind their sustainable super batteries. And last but not least, a new booth will be presented by the Modic Group, featuring Superconductors and DIY-compasses explaining the principles and applications of magnetism in their search for quantum spin liquids.

Furthermore, we will host the following institutes, who will present their research on our Campus:

·        Wolf Science Center

·        Conrad Observatory of the Central Institution for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG)

·        Domestication Lab, Konrad Lorenz Institute of Ethology

·        WasserCluster Lunz

·        Leopold Figl-Observatory for Astrophysics

ISTA in Vienna

Our institute will also be represented at other locations during the Long Night of Research: The Cremer Group will be present at the “Aula der Wissenschaften” in the center of Vienna, where they will show the various tracking methods they are using to observe the social behavior and movements of ants.
