In this seminar, I would like to present the versatility of the atomic force microscopy (AFM) when used in different fields such as soft matter, biophysics or biology.
I will present how AFM is utilized as a high resolution imaging device to characterize (macro)molecules at different interfaces (e.g. crystallization processes or lipid-protein interactions).
Furthermore, I will point out the advantages of the AFM when it is used as a mechanical device. In this part, I will talk about molecular forces, elasticity of macromolecules and cell mechanics.
Finally, I will point out different possibilities to combine the scanning probe microscopy with other microscopy techniques such as fluorescence microscopy and RICM.
