Salamander limb regeneration is a wonderful example of how tissues coordinate cell type identity with positional information to govern appropriate patterning. We have been working on understanding extracellular cues that initiate regeneration, which cells respond, and how differences in positional identity and signalling centers are used to elicit limb regeneration.
