 yn\nAbstract: Advancements in quantum computing have enabled the developme
 nt of small-scale quantum computers that operate according to the principl
 es of quantum physics. One of the most important prospective applications 
 of these devices is the simulation of complex quantum systems\, which aris
 e across many areas of physics and chemistry. Such simulations are notorio
 usly difficult\, if not impossible\, for classical computers\, even the mo
 st powerful supercomputers\, due to the exponential growth of required com
 putational resources with the number of particles in the system. In this 
 talk\, I will first show how both analog and digital quantum devices could
  circumvent this limitation. Despite rapid progress\, however\, applicatio
 ns in this area remain limited\, as current quantum devices are imperfect:
  errors accumulate and pose serious challenges for solving practically rel
 evant problems. I will discuss how\, even in the presence of such errors\,
  near-term quantum computers can already become powerful tools for scienti

DESCRIPTION:Abstract: Klaus-Robert Müller is a Full Professor for Machine 
 Learning at the department of Computer Science at Technische Universität 
 Berlin and at the Department of Artificial at Korea University\, Seoul. Si
 nce 2021\, he is director of the Berlin Institute for Foundations of Learn
 ing and Data (BIFOLD) – one of 5 permanently funded German national cent
 ers for AI. In 2020/2021 and again in 2024/2025 he was on a short (1 year 
 long) sabbatical from academia to lead a team at Google Brain rsp. DeepMin
 d as Principal Researcher. In 2012\, he was elected to be a member of the 
 German National Academy of Sciences – Leopoldina\, in 2017 of the Berlin
  Brandenburg Academy of Sciences\, in 2022 member of the German National A
 cademy of Engineering and also in 2017 as an external scientific member of
  the Max-Planck Society (MPII). Among other awards\, he received the Berli
 n Science prize awarded by the governing Mayor of Berlin (2014)\; in 2017 
 the Vodafone Innovation Award\; in 2024 the Hector Science award and the F
 eynman award\; in 2025 the IEEE CIS Neural Network Pioneer Award and the G
 ottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Award in 2026. Consecutively from 2019 on he beca
 me ISI Highly Cited Researcher. His research interests are AI for the scie
 nces.  GS > 183.000\, h 174. 49 of his former students or PostDocs became
  Professors.\, I was announced as the recipient of the 2026 IEEE CIS Neura
 l Network Pioneer Award and he received the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Priz
 e\, Germany’s most prestigious research award.
