DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Klaus Robert Müller\nhosted by ÖAW\nAbstract: Abstra
ctIn recent years\, machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI)
methods have begun to play a more and more enabling role in the sciences
and in industry. In particular\, the advent of large and/or complex data c
orpora has given rise to new technological challenges and possibilities. I
n his talk\, Müller will touch upon the topic of ML applications in the s
ciences\, in particular in medicine and if time permits also in chemistry.
He will also discuss possibilities for extracting information from machin
e learning models to further our understanding by explaining nonlinear ML
models. Finally\, Müller will briefly discuss perspectives and limitation
s.BioKlaus-Robert Müller is Professor for Machine Learning at TU Berlin a
nd at Korea University\, Seoul. He is director of BIFOLD – one of 5 perm
anently funded German national AI centers. He is a member of Leopoldina\
, BBAW and Acatech and an external scientific member of the Max-Planck S
ociety. Among others he received the Berlin Science prize\, the Vodafone I
nnovation Award\, the Hector Science award\, the Feynman award\, the IEEE
CIS Neural Network Pioneer Award and the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz prize.
Consecutively from 2019 on he became ISI Highly Cited Researcher. His rese
arch interests are in AI for the sciences and in the foundations of AI.Pho
