DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Aline Ramires\nhosted by Maksym Serbyn\nAbstract: Abst
ract Nonsymmorphic symmetries have been in the spotlight in condensed mat
ter physics since the advent of topological band theory and\, most recentl
y\, have been highlighted in the context of altermagentism. In this talk\,
I will briefly introduce nonsymmorphic symmetries and discuss two other s
cenarios in which the presence of nonsymmorphic symmetries can lead to nov
el physical phenomena. The first example concerns superconductivity-induce
d odd-parity orders inspired by the phenomenology of the heavy-fermion CeR
h2As2 [1]. The second example involves the protection of a ferromagnetic q
uantum critical point against its transmutation to a first-order phase tra
 nsition [2].
