 stoplastic models are typically written in the form of a rate-independent 
 evolution which is characterised by the dissipation potential and the elas
 tic energy. We will compare the continuum version of elasto-plasticity wit
 h a model for dislocation motion which also takes the form of a rate-indep
 endent evolution. For a suitable choice of the dissipation potential\, we 
 can show at least informally\, that the dislocation evolution converges to
  an elasto-plastic evolution.
