DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Sofia Agafonova\nAbstract: Pendulums have been at the
heart of many pivotal experiments in physics. Perhaps their most notable c
ontributions are in the study of gravity\, including the measurement of th
e gravitational constant by Cavendish and the demonstration of Earth's rot
ation by Foucault. While the landscape of gravitational research has chang
ed dramatically since these discoveries\, pendulums are still swinging in
modern science. In my talk\, I will highlight some new insights we can gai
n about gravity using pendulums and how my lab uses them to explore the in
terface between gravity and quantum physics.
