DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Matthieu Piel\nAbstract: In tissues\, cells have their
physical space constrained by neighboring cells and extracellular matrix.
In the recent years\, we have developed simple and versatile devices to p
recisely and dynamically control this confinement parameter in cultured ce
lls. I will present results we obtained on the effect of confinement on ce
ll migration focusing on the main parameter limiting cell migration in con
finement: the deformation of its nucleus. I will conclude presenting intru
iguing results showing that large deformations of migrating cells induce s
trong damages of their nucleus raising the question of how immune cells su
ch as dendritic cells can combine high motility and long term survival.
