DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Gershon Kurizki\nAbstract: What is the rapport between
us ("observers") and the World viewed through the prism of science? A per
sonalized review of the main schools of thought on this formidable problem
throughout history\, culminating in outstanding issues of modern physics
will be presented. In particular\, information\, its dependence on observa
bility\, and dependence on the elusive notion of consciousness will be dis
cussed. These issues will be illustrated through our research concerning t
 he quantum Zeno effect.
