DESCRIPTION:hosted by Lora Sweeney\, Sandra Siegert\nAbstract: We are very
excited to announce the FENS Satellite Event “ISTA-FKNE-CHET Young PI Sy
mposium”\, two days before the main FENS meeting.ISTA-FKNE-CHET Young PI
“Transition to Independence” symposium will provide an interactive sc
ientific\, leadership\, and networking platform for early career group lea
ders (0-10 years) in the field of neuroscience.Starting and (effectively)
running a group has various challenges. Scientifically\, early group leade
rs must hire motivated and talented people\, set-up the necessary infrastr
ucture\, get experiments running (in case of an experimental group)\, mana
ge all projects including troubleshooting\, acquire funds\, and more. They
also must develop from being “just-a-scientist” to a leader\, mentor\
, and coach. Peer support is beneficial to drive this transition process\,
but finding peers can be difficult. This symposium’s goal is to initiate
a peer. The first part of the day will focus on science: participants acro
ss different neuroscience disciplines will share their scientific expertis
e\, discover common interests\, and set the basis for future collaboration
s.The second part focuses on the development of leadership\, mentorship an
d (lab) management\, to run a successful group. We will provide ample netwo
rking opportunities\, including coffee breaks\, lunch\, and dinner recepti
on.Application for this event must be submitted by April 30\, 2024\, 23:5
9 CET.  Please note that a small registration fee of 50 EUR will apply\,
once the application is accepted. We will select 60 Young PIs from the appl
ication pool: Eligible scientists are those who will start their own group
within the next 6 months or who have been an independent PI for a maximum
of up to 10 years. We strive for the inclusion of an engaged and diverse P
I cohort\, therefore applications may be given preference to accommodate a
n equal inclusion of participants from different countries and disciplines
