DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Virgil Widrich\nAbstract: Virgil Widrich presents the
innovative film technique “tx-transform”\, which was developed by\nVienn
ese artist and technician Martin Reinhart and is the basis for a short fil
m of the same name\,\ndirected by Virgil Widrich and Martin Reinhart. In t
his technique the time and space axes of\nconventional film change places\
, revealing a fascinating and hitherto unknown universe of moving\nimages.
tx-transform enables the viewer to watch the temporal sequence of a movem
ent in crosssection\nfor the first time\, thus disturbing the familiar rel
ationship between time and space. The\ncustomary perception of time is tur
ned on its head. Objects\, which remain in one place for a long\ntime are
stretched\, rapid movements are compressed - arms and legs detach themselv
es from the\ntorso\, heads are unscrewed. But tx-transform is not only an
exciting visual experience\; it also\nchallenges the intellect to play wit
h the concept of time. A great many connections can be made\nwith early st
udies of movement in photography and film and the theory of relativity\, w
hich\nencourage us to reconsider the historical and theoretical principles
  of the sequence of\nmovements.
