DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Attila Geresdi\nhosted by Georgios Katsaros\nAbstract:
Narrow gap semiconductors\, such as InAs and InSb have recently become th
e most studied platform of Majorana zero modes and novel superconducting q
ubit architectures. The microscopic description of the superconducting pro
ximity effect however requires the understanding of the Andreev bound stat
e spectrum in these systems. Here we present our experimental work address
ing the Andreev levels in Josephson junctions of InAs nanowires with alumi
num epitaxial shells. In order to directly access the excited Andreev leve
ls up to 90 GHz\, bounded by the gap of aluminum\, we utilize inelastic Co
oper-pair tunneling in an on-chip coupled superconducting tunnel junction.
\nWith this technique\, we show the presence of gate-tunable Andreev leve
ls in a ballistic semiconductor channel for the first time\, and demonstra
te how an external applied magnetic field influences the spectrum in the p
resence of strong spin-orbit coupling\, relevant for parity-controlled inv
 estigations of Majorana bound states.
