DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Massimo Scanziani\nhosted by Gaia Novarino\nAbstract:
Talk title: Context in Visual CortexAbstract:Animals and humans contextual
ize sensory information to extract meaning. Indeed\, sensations are influe
nced by the context within which they occur. In the visual world\, for exa
 mple\, the scene surrounding a stimulus\, i.e. its context\, modulates our
perception of the stimulus as well as the neuronal response to that stimu
lus. I will discuss experiments addressing the mechanisms by which circuit
s of neurons in the visual cortex of the mouse contribute to contextual mo
dulation. Revealing the logic through which neuronal circuits implement co
ntextual modulation is providing us with a mechanistic understanding of am
ong the most fundamental properties of sensory processing.
