 ience is not a collection of facts\, but a collection of techniques that t
 ogether constitute the most powerful method for obtaining knowledge as a s
 ociety. Yet most real-world questions have too many facets to be answered
  or even approximated by a single technique\, or a single scientist. Thes
 e common misunderstandings have far-reaching consequences\, which range fr
 om a mistrust in scientists and the rejection of science\, to a blurring 
 between science and pseudo-science\, all the way to an uncritical glorifi
 cation of scientists and their findings. A major task of effective scienc
 e communication is\, therefore\, to explain the power and limits of scient
 ific techniques\, processes\, and findings. This we will discuss at ISTA
