DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Roser Valenti\nhosted by Kimberly Ann Modic\nAbstract:
Unconventional superconductivity with high critical temperatures\, topolo
 gically non-trivial phases\, frustrated magnetism\, spin-liquids or the in
tensively discussed Kitaev phases are a few examples of exotic states in q
uantum materials. One of the big challenges in quantum physics is the micr
oscopic description of such systems. Moreover\, being able to understand t
hem implies the possibility of predicting compounds with desirable propert
ies. In this talk\, I will present and discuss strategies for designing qu
antum materials from first principles and by using statistical methods\, a
nd will motivate their possible use for present technological applications
  such as quantum computing purposes.
