DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Matthew Kwan\nhosted by M. Beiglböck\, N. Berestycki\
 , L. Erdös\, J. Maas\, F. Toninelli\nAbstract: Extremely sparse random bi
nary matrices tend to be singular\, due to the likely presence of "local d
ependencies" such as all-zero columns or pairs of identical columns. We di
scuss this phenomenon\, and some recent results showing that these kinds o
f dependencies are in some sense the only causes of singularity. This incl
udes the resolution of a conjecture of Vu concerning the k-core of an Erds
-Rényi random graph. This talk covers joint work with Asaf Ferber\, Marga
lit Glasgow\, Ashwin Sah and Mehtaab Sawhney.
