 variety with a torus action. In the talk\, I will discuss it and recent de
 velopments: the generalization to singular varieties and its applications\
 , as well as an analogue of BB decomposition for additive group actions. T
 his last generalization\, which is connected to Carrell's rationality conj
 ecture and formal algebraic PDEs\, offers several open questions.
