DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Mohan Balasubramanian\nhosted by Carl-Philipp Heisenbe
rg\nAbstract: Cytokinesis in many eukaryotes requires an actomyosin-based
contractile ring. How the ring is assembled and how it generates tension a
re topics of active interest.\nWe use the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyce
s pombe as a model to investigate these questions. We combine the methods
 of genetics\, advanced imaging\, biochemical reconstitution\, biophysics\,
and chemistry to answer these questions.\nI will describe our recent work
on mechanism of cytokinetic actomyosin ring contraction and disassembly f
ocusing on the role of geometry and the molecular motor Myosin II.
