 We recently developed LINNAEUS\, a CRISPR/Cas9-based method for simultaneo
 us transcriptome profiling and lineage tracing of thousands of single cell
 s. Here\, we use this approach to reveal principles of heart regeneration 
 in adult zebrafish. We identify the origin and function of transient pro-r
 egenerative cell states that are generated upon injury\, and we determine 
 mechanisms of cell type activation.
