 ak\nAbstract: In the last decades\, computing managed to scale societies a
 nd bring everyone closer. We live in an era of efficiency and speed. Speed
 \, however\, is the enemy of trust. Trust needs friction and time to be bu
 ilt. In this talk\, we are going to explore the evolution of trust and inv
 estigate the latest explosion of interest in digital and decentralized tru
 st technologies.To this end\, I am going to present both theoretical and p
 ractical advancements of my research in the last few years focusing on Byz
 antine Fault Tolerant systems and algorithms\, answering questions such as
 : how can we get scalable decentralized systems able to support the curren
 t financial ecosystems\, and how can we scavenge randomness from multiple 
 semi-trustworthy players to run publicly-verifiable lotteries or to audit 
 elections?
