DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Mathijs WINTRAECKEN\nhosted by Herbert Edelsbrunner\nA
bstract: The first insightful geometric and constructive proof of the exis
tence of a triangulation of any smooth manifold was given by Hassler Whitn
ey. We quantize Whitneys construction (in terms of the reach of the manif
old) to prove the existence of a triangulation for any $C2$ manifold\,so t
hat we get an algorithm with explicit bounds. We also give a new elementa
ry proof\, which is completely geometric.Joint work with Jean-Daniel Boiss
 onnat and Siargey Kachanovich.
