DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Anand Kant Das\nhosted by Ryuichi Shigemoto\nAbstract:
The greatest tragedy in life is not a one-time death but dying each day.
Debilitating brain-damaging diseases such as Alzheimers cripples the memor
y and other mental faculties to such an extent that one loses the memory o
f everything including ones name. Every 68 seconds someone develops Alzhei
mers disease and is expected to reach 33 seconds in another 20 years. The
tragedy appears like a movie plot where the hero turns villain\, forms a g
ang\, identifies the targets and attacks to kill. The fatal turn of events
is such that one of the bodys proteins\, Amyloid- ? (A?)\, turn rogue and
attack neurons (target) disrupting communication between them. Can we emp
loy our intelligence agencies to throw some LIGHT on whats going on and fo
il such attacks? My talk will attempt to answer some of these.
