DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Katherine Long\nhosted by Stefania Tavano\nAbstract: D
 r. Katherine Long completed her undergraduate studies in Biomedical Scienc
e at Sheffield University before moving to The University of Edinburgh to
undertake her PhD with Charles french-Constant at the MRC Center for Regen
erative Medicine. During her PhD\, she revealed the critical role of integ
rins in neural development using the chick as a model system. She subseque
ntly expanded her work on extracellular matrix and neural development as a
postdoc with Wieland Huttner at the MPI-CBG in Dresden\, where she has de
veloped a novel system to investigate and manipulate human neocortical dev
elopment\, which has uncovered a novel role for the extracellular matrix i
n the folding of the human neocortex. She plans to build on these findings
to further understand the role of the extracellular matrix in human neoco
rtical development and its dysregulation in neurodevelopment disorders.
