DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Sanjiv A. Luther\nhosted by Michael Sixt\nAbstract: Ly
mph nodes and spleen are the places where adaptive immune responses are in
itiated against pathogens and vaccines. Various stromal cell subsets organ
ize the intricate organ structure and promote the proper functioning. Besi
des endothelial cells which control lymphocyte trafficking\, the major str
omal cell type are the fibroblastic reticular cells (FRC) that form a thre
e-dimensional network. They serve not only as scaffolds for dendritic cell
s and lymphocytes but are also important for lymphocyte homeostasis\, and
the regulation of adaptive immunity. During my presentation I will highlig
ht the interesting structure and function of these FRC networks in homeost
asis and immunity. In addition\, new results will be presented on the hete
rogeneity of these FRC along with the various niches that they form\, ther
eby allowing the development\, survival and function of distinct lymphocyt
 e subsets.
