OIST Graduate University, which comprises 630 employees, including 50 faculty, 310 researchers and 60 research support staff, has created a world?competitive program of research and education in the natural sciences and technology. With more than 40 nations represented on the staff, OIST is highly international and conducts research and education in English. The University hires outstanding faculty and provides them with considerable freedom to pursue basic research and innovative technology development. PhD students are recruited from leading undergraduate and Master’s programs around the world: currently the 56 PhD students come from 23 countries on five continents. Research is conducted in modern facilities equipped with a wide range of state?of?the?art equipment and an extensive high?performance computer cluster. By avoiding traditional administrative and physical boundaries, and by creating easy access for people to each other and to research equipment, OIST has established a very open and intimate environment which naturally supports cross?disciplinary education and research.
