I will discuss how the integrality of ratios of factorials such (30n)!n!/(6n)!(10n)!(15n)! considered by Chebyshev is related to the vanishing of certain Hodge numbers of an affine hypersurface in a torus. The relation follows from a new proof of a known recipe for the Hodge numbers of hypergeometric motives in one variable. If time permits I will also discuss ongoing work on the case of hypergeometric motives depending on more variables.
