I will discuss how to realize concretely the motives of the title in various cases, for example, the case of cubic threefolds, and how their properties are manifested in the associated geometry. In the first part of the talk I will go over the definition and basic properties of hypergeometric motives in a very down-to-earth way, including what a down-to-earth motive means (to me).
